Charli XCX has described her forthcoming album as a “next-level pop record.”
Speaking to DIY magazine, the ‘I Love It’ songwriter spoke about how she is more confident in her music than she has ever been before.
She said: “I feel like this record, of anything I’ve ever done, is most me.
"This feels right, everything about it feels perfect. I’ve grown in confidence. I know now that I can write a hit song, and I feel like I’ve come into my own. I just wanted to make a consistent but next-level pop record, and I didn’t want to just make something that would be, like, a cool, safe record."
Expanding on what her, as yet untitled third studio album will sound like, Charli said that she has worked with Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, and that she wrote the record to promote female empowerment.
She explained: “I want them [her fans] to feel a sense of empowerment. I feel like this record is very feminine, and I remember when I first began writing it I wanted to write an album that I would’ve been obsessed with when I was 14.”
In the interview, the 22-year-old also discussed the sound of the album, and the fate of the punk music she was rumoured to have been working on shortly after the release of her second album ‘True Romance’.
She said: “That [punk] album wasn’t scrapped or anything … It morphed into a new thing, there are elements of punk on this pop record that I’m making. A couple of songs that were originally on that punk record are on the album.
"It hasn’t gone away completely or anything, and I transferred a lot of it over to the main record."

Jessie Ware has unveiled the second single to be taken from her new album ‘Tough Love’, which is being released in October.

The single received its premiere on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show earlier this evening.

Josef Salvat has unveiled his first new music in nine months.

'Shoot And Run' was posted on Josef's SoundCloud page earlier today (11/08/14) and is a huge ambitious, anthemic track, taken from his forthcoming 'In Your Prime' EP.

The ‘Hustler’ singer premiered his new single on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show earlier this evening, which will also play host to the first play of Jessie Ware’s new single ‘Say You Love Me’ tomorrow (12/08/14).

Jessie Ware will premiere her new single ‘Say You Love Me’ tomorrow.

The ‘Wildest Moments’ singer announced on Twitter that the track - which is the second to be taken from her new album ‘Tough Love’ - will receive its first play tomorrow evening on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show.

Writing on her Twitter page, Jessie said: “First play of my new single ‘say you love me’ on @bbcr1 tomorrow night as @zanelowe's #HottestRecord… X [sic]”

Featuring on the show at 7.30pm BST, the track will be Zane’s ‘Hottest Record’.

Last week, the 29-year-old singer revealed that her second album will be released on 6th October 2014 through PMR Records, two years after her debut album ‘Devotion’ which reached number five in the UK album chart.

The 90s R&B-inspired production duo BenZel are said to have been heavily involved in the record, although it is not yet clear whether they have been involved in ‘Say You Love Me’.

Nicki Minaj has admitted to feeling “emotional” whenever she thinks of her family in New York.

In her cover story feature with The FADER, Nicki confessed to feelings of guilt after leaving her younger brother behind in New York to pursue her music career.

The 31-year-old - who is rumoured to be engaged to her long-time partner Safaree Samuels - said her younger brother who recently turned 16, was only a child when she signed her record deal and left the family home. She also revealed that she was upset when she discovered that her younger brother once asked if she would ever return home to live with him.

She said: “One day he asked my mother, ‘Do you ever think there’ll come a time we all live in the same house again, and Onika [Nicki] will be back and she’ll have her room, and I’ll have my room?’ … And it just broke my heart.”

The ‘Starships’ singer went on to say how such stories make her miss her home in New York, adding: “I don’t want to get emotional … I just miss them. Every time I talk about them, I get emotional.”

FKA twigs describes herself as “hot in a very weird way.”

The 26-year-old singer has said that she thinks her music videos are strangely seductive due to her alternative style of female sexualisation.

Talking to The Guardian, she said: “In the video [for latest single ‘Two Weeks’], it’s this vision of me feeding myself, milking myself. I was naked, painted in gold, doing krump dance moves. It’s bizarre but hot in a very weird way.”

The former backing dancer - who will release her debut album ‘LP1’ tomorrow (11/08/14) on Young Turks - went on to discuss her explicit songwriting process.

She said: “I write exactly what I think … If it’s a raw subject, I write lots of things and then pull out all the fluff words. Weird things can be sexy.”

However, FKA twigs made it clear that she thinks this is much healthier than the more blatantly erotic videos of acts like Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke.

Discussing the video for ‘Papi Pacify’ she added: “Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, it’s so shocking’, but you were doing it last night.

“If I was a mother, I would rather my child watch a video like that and not understand it and be inquisitive about what it means. Be curious about something that’s so complicated, rather than watch something really crude and overtly sexual.”

Charli XCX has premiered a brand new song called ‘Allergic To Love’. The track was uploaded to SoundCloud earlier this evening, with XCX currently recording her second album. The record will act as a follow-up to her debut True Romance which was released in 2013. The track which features scuzzy guitars and XCX doing a lot of sneezing, is her first new music since her single 'SuperLove'.

There’s no shame in admitting that ‘Whip My Hair’ was one of your favourite tracks of 2010, no shame at all (well, perhaps a little, but it was catchy). Since then the Hollywood offspring and her brother (The one who was in Karate Kid) have been putting out little bits and pieces, but nothing which has really captivated.

'5' featuring her older brother changes things a little. It's a far cry from the hair whipping, pulse shattering energy of her debut, but the smooth chilled out vibe is something Willow is certainly able to pull off. '5' is well-produced to be full of slick and cool R&B beats, and it shows that Willow Smith is more than just a famous daughter. Jaden too seems to have grown up, with a surprisingly mature sounding verse on the track. Tyler The Creator-esque in tone, he may not be as rebellious, but he adds an edge which makes this a really special output for the pair.

Oh and by the way, Willow Smith was born in 2000, she is 13 years of age (WHAT?!). That family has talent.

Tom Odell has unveiled the spectacular new video to the brilliant single Grow Old With Me from the album Long Way down.

Marina & The Diamonds has released the eleventh, and final part of her Electra Heart archetypes, in a video for the track ‘Electra Heart’. With heavy dubstep breakdowns and howling vocals, the video speeds through the other ten videos which have been released in support of the album of the same name. In the final seconds, she can be seen wiping the small, black heart from her cheek, signalling the end of Electra Heart. Marina has also said goodbye to the character on Twitter. Now, how long before more music is on the horizon?!

New music from Maxsta feat. Little Nikki. Two up and coming urban artists is quite exciting, and although this track is formulaic, it’s very chart friendly and catchy. There’s even a little bit of brass!

Brand new song from MGMT, ‘You Life Is A Lie’ from their forthcoming third album

An interview with Dan Croll (28/07/13)

I chatted to Dan Croll who told me that ‘Home’ will be his next single, and that his debut album will be out in early 2014. Apart from this, there’s a UK tour on the way!

NEW (well… not new) HAIM!

So this track ‘The Wire’ has been floating around on the internet in a few different forms for months and months but it’s now been properly premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show!
